Frequently Asked Questions

SSYRA Frequently Asked Questions

Registration

Is registration required?
No, most of the activities and resources are freely available. However, to submit votes or access the password protected files, registration is necessary.

What is the temporary password?
This cannot be posted on the site for obvious reasons, but is distributed by email to the school district media contacts to pass along to their schools. Private schools receive the letter by regular mail from the DOE.

What does the "duplicate value" error message mean when I try to register?
This message appears if the user has already registered.

Why didn't I get an email confirming my registration?
•If there was a typo in your email as you registered, the email can't be delivered. Check your email address as shown on the page you printed out at the end of the registration process.
• Or if your school or district blocks email from myssyra@gmail.com, you won't receive the confirmation.

Login & Password

Why can't I login to get password protected files or submit votes?
•You did not register for the current school year.
•You are using temporary password that is for registration purposes instead of the password you created during registration.
•There is a typo in your login (which is your email address). Try again and type carefully.
•You tried to use a different email address from the one you used when you registered.

Why does my login take me to the Registration form page?

Do not hit "return" or "enter" on the Login/Register page, click the Login button.

What are the passsword protected files?

•The files that students should not see: the Questions and Answers pages, and the Name That Book activity.
•The files related to voting: the vote flyer, the student ballots, the school report of votes form. Because registration is required prior to voting, password protecting these files reminds participants to register first.

Voting

Who submits votes?
The person who registered for the school submits votes. This is usually the school library media specialist.

Voting has begun, is it too late to register?
No, registration is possible during the voting period. Register first, then login to submit votes.
But if you wait until the last couple of days during the voting period, it may be too late to get assistance with registration problems.

Schools

Which schools can participate in SSYRA?
Any Florida public or private school that serves students in grades 3-5 and/or grades 6-8.

Can home schools participate?
Yes, you can do the activities that are freely available on this web site. Contact a school library media specialist at a public school nearby to you to get the password protected files and to add your votes to their votes. The school library media specialist at that school will submit all votes at the same time.
